Sky Whirl

As mentioned in the October Fields post I haven't always been able to keep the yellows and reds I start a painting with. This board was textured with my favorite tissue paper crumple and then I started with a really dark blue black wash......actually created by layers of colors to create some depth to the very dark base. Then I worked in reverse adding in the horizon line. I also asked myself "How simple can I make this?" The dark layered background was already pleasing to me so the possibility of ruining it was pretty good. The yellow swirls of sky light and ground light happened as very dry brush work. Even though it's dark and different from October Fields I like it for itself. The movement in the sky gives it life........
