Repainted Newspapers in a simple square stack.

I used hot melt glue to draw the fish shape and the

bubble shapes on newspaper. Then I primed and painted the newspaper with the

glue fish. 

I like to use gold acrylic paint to highlight the raised glue.

I used a cotton swab dipped in gold paint to add the texture dots

below the fish

This would be great mounted on a recycled pizza box canvas.

Stamping with simple shapes

  Using simple figures cut from the side of a cereal box. We will use some of these techniques in my class on April 23rd at 5 Kirkland Ave in Clinton NY.

Styrofoam tray that produce is packaged on. That's how this piece of recycled art was made.
Pieces of Styrofoam tray and the trays themselves as the frame. Metallic paint in circles and strips.

The Single Figure

                     Single Figure

A small (4 x6) piece from recycled materials. The black paint was textured with plastic wrap and let dry. A cutout ( using a lightweight product box) was positioned over the textured background. Black paint was dry brushed around it to pop out the shape of the figure. Red acrylic was also slightly dry brushed. Once dry a white Soufflé pen was used to draw the lines and stars. Unpredictable and lovely!

Fluid Painting

Something like Chinese brush work but I used thinned acrylic paint in a bottle with a nozzle. And I used a thin dowel to scratch into and pull some of the wet paint.

Primed with gesso newspaper is mono printed with layers of acrylic paint

I get to the day of card making.

How to put the blocks of painted paper together?

Not as easy as I thought.

The picture of how I thought it would be in my head

does not match what the paper will do.

Have to let go of the picture in my head and see

what the painted papers can become on their own.

Another Dancer on the Page

Dancing Dancer

It's fun to add the dancer to different backgrounds.

The texture piece is lots of pieces of paper stacked and glued

 and more

stacking and gluing.

(One way to use up old newspapers)

Then they were primed with white and

then painted into their purple-black final color.

Lots of color changes in between along

with wiping and blotting to get variations in the color.

I laid that textured squares piece onto

the dark blue spattered paper first but it was just too dark.

 I added the lighter

rose colored pieces to create some contrast.

It's an interesting piece of texture without the dancer but

the dancer on the page

is my repeating theme.

Leaf Detail

This from the top of the package...little leaves made of primed and painted newsprint. I cut them into freeform leaf shapes and added the veining with paint in bottles with a pointy tip. (Probably used for fabric painting)
Newspaper Bow
Looks like a cabbage or a mum but it IS really the bow for the top of the package. Got a little out of hand and threatening to overtake the whole package........ Strips of primed and painted newsprint glued to a square light cardboard base and just layered and layered and layered. It started out as loops of newspaper and then I ended up cutting the loops open to try to release some of the form. Having to think in 3D and about the sculptural qualities. I wanted it to be different but it's OK for a first attempt....

The Present itself
Wrapped in painted newsprint. I gessoed it and then added the colors and folded them into each other ( sort of like cooking!) When the muted background was dry (pink,rose, gold and white) I added on the white hearts randomly with a stencil I had cut. I had to tape two pieces together to fit the box completely so I planned ahead a littel to try to make two similarly painted pieces of painted newspaper.

This is the bigger sheet of the red heart wrapping paper. Liking the variation in color on the background and the random placement of the hearts. I'm working on more wrapping paper and card ideas from the painted newspaper. Liking the idea of creating, using and discarding the painted paper in the shape of the I Ching...all about change.
